Jane Austen's novel, "Pride and Prejudice", was published in 1813. The author sold the copyright for Ł110. When it was published, the novel was read mostly by men from hing society, but nowadays it is popular mainly among women, of all age gropus and backgrounds. The book has inspired many different adaptions.

In 1995, the BBC made a six-episode series based on the novel. The role of Mr Darcy was played by Colin Firth. It made the character of Mr Darcy and the actor himself extremely popular. The film was watched by about 10 milion people. Even today, some people watch the film just to see Colin Firth in it. The scene he walks in a wet shirt is still remembered by many fans.

It was hard for screenwriter Deborah Moggach to beat the 1995 adaption and provoke such strona attraction. Many peiope also liked the autdoor scenes made in beautiful countryside. Yet some viewers said the film didn't manage to deal with the complexity of the book.

A few years ago P. D. James wrote a crime triller in which Jane Austen's story continues. After Mr Darcy marries Elizabeth, they lead a happy life ar Mr Darcy country house at Pemberley. After six years, Elizabeth's sister arrives with the news that her husband has been murdered, and the reader joins Elizabeth and Mr Darcy in the search for the killer.

In 2013, Stephanie Meyer produced a film based on Shannon Hale's bestseller "Austenland". It follow a thirty-year-old woman who carries a life-size paper doll of Mr Darcy. She is so obsessed with the BBC adaptacion that she travels to a Jane Austen theme park in search of that perfect gentelman.

One place that has benefited from the "Pride and Prejudice effect" is a 17th-century building in Hampshire. The writer lived there for the last eight years of her life. Now it is a popular museum. The number of visitors from various countries doubled after the 1995 BBC series.

You can also join a "Pride and Prejodice" walking tour in the Peak District, where sone scenes were shot, ride though the film-sets dressed as you favourite character, see Elizabeth's roon, or make a four-day luxury Austen excursion. Trips that recreate the experience can cost over Ł1 000 a day.

The teacher wants us to have a 'get to know you' meeting where we can all describe our lives back in our home countries. He has asked us all to bring our laptops or tablets to the meeting so that we can show some pictures to each other. The meeting will finish at about 10:30pm, so we should be able to catch the last bus home. I'm staying just around the corner from you sowe can go together if you like.

See you later!

Dear John I'm writing to tell you about a strange experience. I finally decided to sell my old camera as I had got a new one for my birthday. I put the camera up for auction on that website you told me about and I wrote a really good description, showed my best photographs and offered an extra lens for free. 11 people were interested and asked about the functions and its condition. I got 110 pounds, which was really good. The buyer wanted to pick it up personally, so we arranged to meet at the station. However, when I arrived, someone ran past me, grabbed the camera and disappeared! No camera - no money! I was going to spend the money on a better lens for my new camera - what a disaster! Anyway, how's life with you? Are you coming to Poland soon? Take care XYZ
